But it can be very hard to sell (certain types of) managers on the idea that their staff will make better decisions than they do.Kevin Rutherfordhttp://www.kevinrutherford.co.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20843954.post-90632422267136927842010-08-09T16:14:52.026+02:002010-08-09T16:14:52.026+02:00@Kevin

You may get some exceptions where you decentralize decision making, and get a worse decision as a result, but on average, decision quality will go up a lot.

We are dealing with probabilities, not certainties in every individual case.

We are replacing a high probability of poor decisions with a high probability of good decisions.

It is the same thing we do in an Agile team when we engage more people in making estimates, or discussing design solutions. - We move the decision making closer to the problems, and get faster decisions based on a better understanding of the problem.

Of course, some local decisions have system wide impact. That is why IOHAI training (or equivalent) is important.Kallokainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15756733532883677794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20843954.post-44145050145455377702010-08-09T13:29:23.719+02:002010-08-09T13:29:23.719+02:00"At the same time we engage more people in th..."At the same time we engage more people in thinking, and thus increase T" -- are you sure that's always true?Kevin Rutherfordhttp://www.kevinrutherford.co.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20843954.post-14194753415013337872010-08-09T00:25:00.926+02:002010-08-09T00:25:00.926+02:00Hi Bob,

I wrote these two articles because of a discussion on LinkedIn:

http://www.linkedin.com/groupAnswers?viewQuestionAndAnswers=&discussionID=20673455&gid=37631&commentID=20741913&trk=view_disc

I couldn't explain what I meant very well using the LinkedIn forum format. I needed the illustrations, and felt hampered by the length restrictions.

Also, some of this material, thoroughly rewritten of course, might end up in a future book.

And, I have been on vacation. I had all these things in my head that I needed to clear out before I can start working.

About half done now...Kallokainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15756733532883677794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20843954.post-29976253796089876052010-08-08T19:55:13.426+02:002010-08-08T19:55:13.426+02:00Who is your audience?
